December Update

An Advent Blessing

“In this Advent of expectation, draw us together in unity,

that our praise and worship might echo in these walls and also through our lives.

In this Advent of expectation, draw us together in mission,

that the hope within might be the song we sing, and the melody of our lives.

In this Advent of expectation, draw us together in service,

that the path we follow might lead us from a stable to a glimpse of eternity. Amen”

May the joy of Christmas, the magic of the season and our celebration of the birth of Jesus be yours. Continued blessings as we celebrate a Happy New Year 2018. On behalf of the entire staff at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Elementary School, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very reflective and rejuvenating Holy Christmas. We hope that you have plenty of time to connect as a family and to truly enjoy this very special season.

Dressing for the Weather

Just a reminder that students must wear proper footwear in the school at all times. Students should bring extra clothes, especially socks in the colder or wet days. All outdoor wear such as gloves, mitts, hats, jackets, snowpants, etc. should all be labelled. Help practice with your child at home so they can independently get dressed for winter.

Cold Weather and Outside Recess

While the colder weather has not hit yet, it is on the way! The safety of students will always be the first consideration when deciding if the students go out or stay indoors for recess. When the temperature including wind chill is -20 or lower, students will be kept inside for recess. When the temperature including wind chill is -15 to -19, lunch recess will be 20 minutes outside and 20 minutes inside. We refer to the Environment Canada website when making the decision regarding outdoor play.

Bus Delays and Cancellations

Under certain conditions, such as inclement weather, it may be necessary to close the school, send the students home early and/or cancel school board buses and taxi services. Planning to Take a Vacation?

Please call the office to note your child’s absence if you are going on a holiday. For a prolonged absence, please request an “Intent to be Absent” form.

When your child is not feeling well…

Please do not send your child to school if they are not feeling well. If does not take long for a virus or bacteria to spread throughout a classroom. Keeping them home helps prevent other children from getting sick and spreading the illness to others. If you child has a fever, has been sick throughout the night, or if they have a bad cold and/or cough, please keep them home. Please ensure your child(ren) are well enough to return to school, as all children benefit from going outside for recess.
