Sacramental News: The staff and students would like to offer our prayers to our Grade 2 students who will be receiving Sacraments in the upcoming months. The Grade 2’s will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturday, April 21 at 1:00 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. On Saturday, May 12 at 2:00, our Grade 2 students will celebrate their First Holy Communion. We would like to offer a special thank you to Mrs. Blackmore, Mrs. Dow and Father Foote for helping prepare our students for these special occasions.
Professional Development Day: Just a reminder that Friday, April 13th is a Professional Development Day. Students do not come to school on this day.
Emergency Drills: Spring brings us the opportunity to practice our emergency preparedness. In the coming few months, we will hold our three spring fire drills, one tornado drill, a Hold and Secure drill and two Lockdown drills, as part of our school emergency response plan. We continue to be impressed by our students preparation for these safety drills.
EQAO Primary and Junior Assessments: Annually, the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assess Ontario’s Grade 3 and Grade 6 students in the areas of Reading, Writing and Mathematics. The assessment period for our students will take place between May 22-June 4. Grade 3 and Grade 6 letters will be sent home announcing each Grade’s testing dates. We ask for your cooperation in NOT making any appointments for your child during this time so they do not miss any testing periods.
Grade 7 CAT-4 testing and Grade 4 CCAT testing: Our Grade 7’s will be completing the Canadian Achievement Test (CAT-4). This test is scheduled for April 30-May 6. Our Grade 4’s will also complete the Canadian Cognitive Abilities Test. This test is scheduled for April 23-27. Both of these tests will occur for 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour each day. Please schedule any appointments around these dates.
Are you Moving???: Each spring, we being the preliminary planning of the school organization for next September and need to know enrollment estimates for the upcoming school year. Please advise Mrs. Trouten at the school office as soon as possible if your child(ren) will NOT be returning to St. Margaret Catholic School for the 2018-2019 school year. Whether you are moving or your child(ren) are changing schools, advance notification enables us to effectively plan for the upcoming year.
Wednesday, April 11: Dr. Meg Popovic- 6:00-8:00: Come and join us for a night with Dr. Meg Popovic. Meg is a university professor, mother and professional speaker. Her work focuses on resiliency, understanding youth culture, mindfulness and emotional health. Information forms went home with your child(ren). Please send in the RSVP form if you are able to attend.
Volunteers Needed: Saturday, April 14 at 10:00 am: Come join us clean up the Woodlot and School Yard! We will meet in the backyard at 10:00. ALL are welcome. Please wear rain boots and gloves. If you have racks, shovels, wagons and/or wheelbarrows, bring them with you. Bring a reusable mug for coffee and hot chocolate. If it is raining, we will reschedule for April 28.
