Catholic Education Week and Mental Health Week May 6^th to 10^th, 2024

Mental Health Week:

Every day, educators and students are exposed to big and small challenges that can contribute to feelings of stress. Educators and students continue to rise to the challenge in innovative and creative ways, connecting and building meaningful relationships with students and families. Providing opportunities for students to understand how their brains and bodies are impacted by stress, and for explicit skill development is an essential part of bolstering positive student mental health. As an educator, it is equally important to prioritize your own well-being. There are strategies that we can practice regulating our emotions and to improve our ability to cope in challenging moments. Learning these skills is an important part of improving and caring for our positive mental health. Mental Health Week provides a great opportunity for practice.

 Catholic Education Week:

This year’s Catholic Education Week theme is, “We are Called to Love.”

There are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week:

Monday:              As people of hope / Dans l’espérance

Tuesday:              As people of faith / Dans la foi

Wednesday:        As people of mercy / Avec compassion

Thursday:            As people of justice / Dans la justice

Friday:                  As people of joy / Dans la joie

WE WILL SEND THROUGH NEWSWIRE DAILY INFORMATION AND ACTIVITIES.

Some activities include:

Daily Mental Wellness lessons and coping strategies

Grades 4 – 8 beginning Track and Field practice rotations.

Grade 7 and 8 Speech Competitions

Grades 2 – 6 walk to performance at Christ The King

Grades 6 – 8 Fiddlesticks Youth Committee Dance: Summer Bash Fri. May 10^th from 7 to 10 p.m.

Parents are invited to join us:

– Tuesday May 7^th at 9:10 a.m. School wide Folk-Dance Presentation

– Tuesday May 7^th at 7:00 p.m. at Galt Arena Gardens for Cambridge Folk Dance presentation

– Thursday May 9^th at 6 to 7:00 p.m. for Dr. Alison Yeung presentation at St. Benedict SS

– Thursday May 9^th at 9:30 a.m. for a school wide May Crowning lead by Father Joe in the gym

– Friday May 10^th all day for Jump Rope for Heart activities at the school (classes will post their times)

-Friday May 10^th from 7 to 10:00 p.m. Fiddlesticks Youth Committee Dance: Summer Bash Grades 6 to 8

All students and parents who have not yet filled in the “Concussion Code of Conduct” found in School CashOnline WILL NOT be able to participate in the various sports and track activities coming up for May and June (Intermediate Soccer, Junior 3-Pitch, Track and Field, Cross Country, etc.).

What is Diversity Day?

At St. Margaret’s this Friday May 3rd, we are going to celebrate our uniqueness and differences as a school community!

Students can bring anything that represents their cultural background. For example: small items, flags, souvenirs, photos, or anything that you think can represent your culture best! You can even wear clothing to represent your culture or bring in a small food item to share with classmates!

Classrooms may be doing various activities in class and students will be given an opportunity to share their items or even just talk about their cultural background if an item could not be brought in.  If food items are brought into class, they MUST be NUT FREE!

 Hello St. Margaret Families!

It’s great to be back in full swing! This year, we will again be fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart. Please see the attached letter that describes how we can donate to such a worthy cause. If we are to beat heart disease and stroke, what a better way to Jump toward our goal of $2000.00!  

There are prizes to be won and games to play. Our Event Day for Jump Rope is Friday, May 10th. By going to the link, or using the QR Code, you can donate from Friday, April 26th to Friday May 24th. Students are also able to win gift cards on-line for their donations! Please see the link as there is a parent’s section that will take you to all you will need to participate in, not only donating, but to an on-line EASY Healthy Habits section that students can do to help them be healthy every day!  

When searching for our school, please remember to spell “St Margaret” without a period in “St” You do not need to print “School”. Let’s raise money and have fun for Jump Rope this year!

All families are welcome to join us on Wednesday May 1st from 6-8pm as we learn more about and participate in fun games and activities while exploring the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math!

St. Margaret’s will be celebrating in various ways in our classrooms and with the school community.

LUNCH BOX ORDERS APRIL 19th

Harveys has been added to the Lunch box calendar for Friday April 19th due to the change of the PD day. Parents can go online to purchase their child’s food for that day.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY APRIL 8th

This is a reminder to parents that there is no school on Monday April 8^th due to the PD day. Students remember to be safe and wear protective eyewear for the Full Solar Eclipse Event happening in the afternoon 3:20PM.
