A Prayer for the New Year
The tree is cleared away and its decorations and garlands sparkle no more. The wise men have left for their distant country. The Child is no longer in the crib. The party is over. But the star still hovers in the firmament of our lives, and its light shines in the depth of all our nights. In us, the star still stands and sings; at the end of all night’s dead-ends, singing the song of the One – who got involved in all our human comings and goings: I am with you until the end of time! Amen
On behalf of our wonderful St. Margaret Staff team, we would like to extend to your family continued blessings and best wishes for a healthy, Holy and prosperous New Year. We have many exciting events planned for our students in 2018 and will continue to create a safe, positive, fun and learning focused environment for our students.
Dressing for the Weather: Just a reminder that students must wear proper footwear in the school at all times. Students should bring extra clothes, especially socks in the colder or wet days. All outdoor wear such as gloves, mitts, hats, jackets, snowpants, etc. should all be labelled.
Cold Weather: Outdoor Recess: The colder weather has arrived! The safety of students will always be the first consideration when deciding if the students go out or stay indoors for recess. When the temperature, including wind chill, is -20 or lower, students will be kept inside for recess. When the temperature, including wind chill, is -15 to -19, lunch recess outside will be shortened. We refer to the http://www.weather.ca/ website when making the decision regarding outdoor play.
Bus Delays and Cancellations: Under certain conditions such as inclement weather, it may be necessary to close the school, send students home early and/or cancel school board buses and taxi services. School Attendance is Important: As you are aware, consistency of learning is a vital part of a child’s continuous learning progress. It will be difficulty for your child to progress to the best of their ability if they are constantly trying to catch up on missed schoolwork. It is also important for students to be here on time in the morning. Punctual attendance allows children the opportunity to start the day off in a positive, calm manner and reduces the disruption in their routine as well as the classrooms’ routine. Help your child have a positive experience at school each day, arrive on time. Thanks!
P.D. DAY: Friday, January 26, 2018 is a Professional Development Day. There will be NO SCHOOL that day.
Save the Date: Attention Grade 7 and 8 Parents: A paper invitation will also be sent home.
Reminder: Life Threatening Allergies at School: Many children in our school live with severe life-threatening food allergies to nut products or other food allergens. Anaphylaxis is a medical condition that causes a severe reaction to specific foods and is life-threatening. The Province of Ontario has mandated that all schools comply with Sabrina’s Law to protect children with life-threatening allergies. Our School Board is committed to providing a “minimized allergen environment” for all students and we must follow the prescribed policies and protocols. We continue to promote food-free celebrations at our schools where possible and those that are organized by School Council and/or Staff are monitored closely for safety. Please do NOT send food to school to serve to other students. Thank you for your understanding and support.
School Council Meeting: Monday, January 22, 2018: Our next School Council meeting will be Monday, January 22, 018 at 6:15 pm in the Conference Room.
